The Challenge
- The water in a small (i.e. capillary) gap between immersion lens and screen is the source of a force pulling both objects together.
- This force has dynamic components and therefore is challenging if the size of the drop is controlled via a feedback loop.
The Approach
- Physical analysis of the process using surface tension, contact angles and energy differences
- Modelling of the shape of the meniscus
- Implementing of Hagen-Poiseuille flow and a relaxation effect for the dynamic part
Result & Added Value
- Successful derivation of the physical theories
- Successful implementation of dynamic effects
- Generalized model was implemented in MATLAB, which allows prediction of the time-dependent forces acting at a particular volume flow
